Retro runner John has world bid at his feet
DROGHEDA-born runner John Fulham will be travelling to Italy to represent his native Ireland in the forthcoming fifth World Retro Championships.
But this is running with a twist - it's all backwards!
He'll compete in the 5k and 10k distances. John currently lives in Dunfermline, Scotland and is a seasoned club marathon runner with Carnegie Harriers though took up retro running (backward running) seven months ago after an injury sustained shortly after completing the Loch Ness Marathon.
'In a nutshell, backward running is a great way to work all your leg muscles and more importantly creates a gentler foot strike and burns off 30% more calories than forward running. And yes, you will get strange looks,' he admits.
