Lucky escape after Rathmullen crash

Garden wall comes crashing down after early morning incident

One person was taken to hospital following a two car crash in Rathmullen Park early last Wednesday morning which resulted in a garden wall being knocked over.

A spokesperson for the gardaí said they are investigating the incident which occurred at around 7.15am on the 20th.

He said one vehichle hit another car and this then pushed the other car into a nearby garden wall.

The accident resulted in a large amount of damage being caused to both cars involved and both were later towed away.

The driver of one of the vehicles was taken to hospital for treatments.

Shocked locals said the accident had resulted in 'total carnage' with both the cars and the garden wall completely destroyed as a result but said it was lucky the accident hadn't been more serious.

One local resident said if it had happened an hour or so later the footpath would have been busy with parents and children on their way to school.

'I dread to think what could have happened if anyone had been on the footpath at the time,' she said.

Meanwhile, gardaí are also investigating a break-in to a van which was parked at the Department of Psychiatry at Crosslanes on Friday, September 22nd last.

The incident happened sometime between 7am and 2pm. A number of items were stolen from the van including a fibreglass stepladder, a number of drills and a toolbox. A house in Woodlands, Dunleer was broken into overnight on Sunday and the keys to the family car taken. It is a silver Kia Sportage jeep with a 12 D registration.
