Gate safety measures are badly needed

Further safety measures are needed at key junctions in the vicinity of St Laurence's Gate, FF election hopeful James Byrne has stated.

In has contacted the council in respect of representations he has received from residents.

'Drivers coming up Constitution Hill seem oblivious to the fact that they must yield to drivers coming from the Cord Road turning right up Francis Street.

'It might be worth putting up additional signage or putting a stop sign on the Cord Road so drivers would yield right of way from both directions.'

He says there have been a number of near misses.

'It's only a matter of time before there is an accident here. It's also a dangerous junction for pedestrians to cross as is the pedestrian crossing at the bottom of Palace Street.

'Although there is signage warning drivers before they turn left off Laurence's Street it appears to be inadequate as some residents have told me that cars have come speeding around the corner as they are in the middle of the road crossing. '

He feels a safety plan on the streets around the Gate needs to be made to see if improvements can be made.

' I'm sure it could be done at minimal cost and provide value for money in terms of road safety.
