Fundraising efforts continue

FANS and players took part in a northside v southside Drogheda United fundraising friendly match at United Park on Monday night, and afterwards the club's player of the year Graham Gartland – who is likely to join a top English club in January – was very much in the spotlight at an auction in the nearby Windmill House, with chairman Hoey as auctioneer.

A member of the public paid € 720 for a night out with the popular Tallaght native, his signed Setanta Cup jersey went for € 500 and a similar amount was paid by a local club for Gartland to take a coaching session.

Other events in recent days included a bagpacking day in Dunnes Stores, a treadmill marathon at Scotch Hall and a game between Drogheda United Ultras and the Under-25 supporters.

Gartland was among a number of players past and present, including Dan Connor, Brian Shelley, Guy Bates, Joe Kendrick, Gareth Whelan, Shaun Williams, Tony Grant and Stephen Bradley, who were involved in the fundraising activities.

•Donations to Drogheda United's Save The Drogs campaign can be made to the Drogheda United 2009 bank account at the AIB in Drogheda – account number 44472182, sort code 93-20-94.
