Erosion fears as Salterstown road slipping into the sea

Hubert Murphy

There is no funding to carry out major repairs to a stretch of road at Salterstown that is threatening to fall into the sea. Already three cars have come off the edge of the road and had to be towed to safety.

Coastal erosion has caused the problem, Cllr Colm Markey has claimed. He says it is constantly being brought to his attention. ‘There is no bank, just tarmac and then a hole. It’s very serious’, he told councillors at the Ardee area meeting.

Cllr Pearse McGeough agreed, saying it was a drop down and is ‘lethal’. Engineer Sean O’Reilly said funding had been sought but was unsuccessful. He said they would try and get boulders to support the road
