Dunleer is in spotlight at awards
Louth County Council nominated Dunleer to compete under the Bank of Ireland National Enterprise Town Awards 2018, with the judging taking place last week.
The purpose of the competition is to promote enterprise by bringing business and community groups together.
Thomas McEvoy, Head of Enterprise at Local Enterprise Office Louth welcomed them to Dunleer and said 'The vibrant enterprise and community spirit in each of the towns was clearly evident to the judges, who were very impressed with the business and community leaders they met on their visit to Louth.'
Over the following three hours they saw a selection of the projects that secured Dunleer a place on the shortlist alongside Blackrock and Dundalk.
Among the well known businesses they toured were Lannleire Honey, Mcor Technologies, Suretank and Glen Dimplex.
They also visited the Men's Shed, met pupils of Scoil Ui Mhuiri at the murals on the main street, had a walkabout and also went to see the contribution made to health and sport by the GAA and Team Carrie.
The judges heard about the Energy Team programme established by the Dunleer Community Development Group.
Eugene Conlon said "Businesses in the area have recognised that helping the community to grow leads to a better quality of life in the surrounding area and creates a good area for all to thrive in including being a good place for their employees to live and work in." He hopes the judges left with, "a sense of seeing a community that is well rounded.
