Drogheda will shine!
600,000 on the way to town for eight-day festival of music, song and culture
President Michael D Higgins and Sabina Higgins will officially launch Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann next Sunday, August 11th, at 3pm at Bolton Square.
Last year's launch event was one of the best attended in history and set the tone for a record-breaking week.
All indications are that this year will better 2018, with a number of extra events taking place at venues throughout the town.
'Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is costly to stage but it is worth approx €40 million to the local economy. We must thank sincerely all our sponsors for their generosity, as without them and the support of Louth Co. Council it would not be possible to host the Fleadh in Drogheda,' Lolo Robinson from Drogheda Comhaltas stated.
'It takes over 1,000 volunteers to organise and assist in the running of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. Some of us have been working on it since January 2012.'
Some of the biggest names in entertainment will be performing in town, including Damien Dempsey and Nathan Carter, while a number of local groups are also lined up to perform.
The Coca-Cola Dome will be erected in Dominick's Park and the Gig Rig in Bolton Square. Fleadh TV has also moved to the Abbey car park.
People are advised to be aware of closed roads from this weekend for the duration of the celebration.
