Drogheda going for Purple Flag
A Drogheda working group will be making an application to the Association of Town and City Management (ACTM) for accreditation to the Purple Flag standard, at the end of June 2019.
The Purple Flag is the gold standard for a night time economy. Purple Flag assessors will arrive on a Friday or Saturday night in July or August and assess our night time offering.
The assessors look at safety and well being; movement - how people get around and home safely; vibrancy and variety of offering; a sense of place and what is unique, and how the night time community in Drogheda work together.
The working group is made up of the LOVEDROGHEDA BID team, Drogheda Vintners, Louth County Council, Droichead Arts Centre, Drogheda Taxi group and Drogheda Chamber of Commerce.
Valerie Sherlock, General Manager of the Westcourt Hotel, is the Chairperson of the Purple Flag Group. "We think this will make further improvement on our already strong night time offering. Purple Flag accreditation will endorse our night time offering and demonstrate our commitment, as a business community, to providing a safe and varied night time offering with broad appeal."
"This is a team effort by all interested parties of Drogheda's night time economy", said Collette Nugent, Chairperson of Drogheda's Vintners.
"It's great to see a lot more collaboration going on and people working together on a whole host of projects, including Purple Flag.'
