'Drogheda Fleadh to be best of all time'
Comhaltas boss feels town has it all when it comes to big August event
Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann, taking place in Drogheda from August 12-19 will be 'one of the best Fleadhs of all time.'
That's the view of Labhrás Ó Murchú, the Director-General of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, who says the town is primed to be an ideal location for the greatest celebration of Irish heritage and culture in the world.
Addressing the launch of the event in the Highlanes Gallery, he says Drogheda's great history will ensure the success of the event in 2018 and also 2019. He declared that one of the driving forces behind staging the event, Lolo Robinson, 'will be the queen of the Fleadh.'
He says up to 400,000 people will descend on the town.
'Joan Martin and Paddy Donnelly and others in the local authority have done so much and it's a great partnership,' he stated.
He added that people from all over the world will descend on Drogheda for an event that usually runs for nearly two weeks.
'This is not a dress rehearsal, this is the real thing. It's hard to explain the Fleadh if you've never been at it,' he remarked.
Last Sunday saw Laurence's Street turned into Fleadh street for the day to give locals a glimpse of what's to come.
