Derelict site notice served on Abbey

Louth County Council has moved to demand that action be taken to clean up the Abbey Shopping Centre.

A Section 11 notice has been pinned to the front of the building on behalf of Director of Services Frank Pentony, ordering that works be carried out under the Derelict Sites Act 1990.

The order demands the removal of defunct light fittings on the building and to replace the missing letters or totally remove the Abbey Shopping Centre sign at the rear of the premises.

The council have also ordered that graffiti be removed and that the building be painted, along with window boxes, 'in keeping with the architectural Conservation area' that the building sits in.

Non compliance with the notice - which has given 35 days for the works to be done - although it is signed March 19, 2019, could result in fines of €31,000 under indictment, along with two years imprisonment.
