Country radio star Michael has worldwide fans
A Drogheda based radio presenter is taking the digital radio business by storm - building up a fan base around the world.
Michael McDonagh (18) from Hardman's Gardens is a popular performer on London based Sunshine Radio UK and has a huge love of Country Music, so much so, he had now three slots on the station.
'I have been doing the show since August 2017. I started off with 5 days a week now I do Friday, Sunday and Monday,' he stated.
He operates his show from his home but is presently trying to source a new system that will allow him do interviews.
He is still getting used to the business but will be on the road shortly to meet some of the stars he plays, the likes of Simon Peters from Derry, Owen Mac from Coleraine Northern Ireland and a few others.
He said the unveiling of the Big Tom statue in Castleblaney last year was a special moment for all country and western fans.
'I play country music from around the world and it is great to have listeners from as far away as the U.S,' he states. He held a competition over Christmas and the winner was an American!
I have met great friends through Sunshine Radio UK, which is based in London,' he continues, stating that the station manager got in touch with him and asked would he be interested in a volunteering slot.
He caught the bug of country music about a decade ago and says Big Tom, Simon Peters, Owen Mac and Robert Mizzell are his tops.
'I also have a favorite country singer from Nashville Tennessee called Joe Hott, whom I have become great friends with in the last two years.'
'I would really like to go into radio professionally in the future,' he admits.
