Call for proper bus stop after woman injured

The 24-year-old woman who was knocked down crossing the road at the Valley Inn in Mullary is making steady progress in a Dublin hospital.

Lauren Murphy was injured following the incident at approximately 3.30p.m. on Monday afternoon, 18th November.

She suffered head injuries and her condition was described as 'critical' at one stage.

Her father, Donal, said this week that Lauren was sitting up and eating and in good form.

'She is talking and that's great,' he stated.

Donal described the horror that unfolded on the day in question when Lauren got off a bus opposite the Valley Inn and was crossing the road when she was struck by a truck.

'She was unconscious, but there was a nurse in the Valley Inn and she put Lauren in the recovery position and an ambulance was there very quickly.'

She was transferred to Beaumont Hospital where she underwent surgery.

The incident has further highlighted issues over bus stops and Donal says he wants action taken at the location.

'That area needs to be like Monasterboice. It is a very busy road and people have to get across the road to get to the car park.

'The roads authority need to provide a proper set down area.

'This is something I will be following up with local councillors and representatives and I want action taken on this,' he added.
