The local Red Door Project will take on the mighty Aura Boyne Swim on June 15th this year to raise vital funds for the national children's cancer charity Aoibhéann's Pink Tie.

This year will mark the 10th year the wonderful Red Door Project has been operating in the town of Drogheda and residents of Drogheda have strongly supported the service since its inception in 2009.

With that in mind the team have decided to give back to the community by raising much needed funds for Aoibheann's Pink Tie who provide financial and emotional support to many families in Drogheda and surrounding areas who have been affected by childhood cancer.

Local Red Door service manager Louise Mahony was full of praise for the teams efforts to date: 'I'm so proud of the team taking on this mammoth challenge for the national children's cancer charity.

'I hope we can raise loads of money and that all the team enjoy themselves whilst taking part in such an important event.'

The colossal challenge will see many of the team taking on their first open water swim.

There has been widespread support for the project with the Drogheda Triathlon Club and Boyne Swim Committee Member Ray Donagh taking a leading role in the training regime that has been facilitated in Aura's swimming pool.

Ray Donagh said: 'The enthusiasms and commitment from the participants has been amazing and I have no doubt that they will all complete the challenge in June. The Drogheda Triathlon Club are fully behind the group and the fundraising efforts.'

Red Door CE Supervisor Pio Smith said: 'The Boyne Swim is a great challenge for all of the team, we are working hard and training two or three times a week. Following each session we are becoming more confident in our ability to complete the swim.'

Joanne O'Dwyer, Supervisor in the Red Door added: 'I'm delighted that we are in a position to give back to another organisation. I'm really proud of the team's efforts and I'm looking forward to taking on the challenge.'

There is a 'Go Fund Me' page set up for the event, you can donate by searching 'Red Door Project Battles Boyne Swim for Aoibheanns Pink Tie.'
