All systems go for gardai as they look forward to Fleadh

A full Garda Siochana operation is in place to meet the demands of the 2019 Fleadh Cheoil.

Supt Andrew Watters confirmed this week that all leave had been cancelled in the district and extra personnel were being drafted in from Dundalk and Ardee.

'Last year was a great success and there won't be any complacency about this year.

'We have a full plan in place with increased CCTV,' he stated.

The gardai have been working with Louth CC, other emergency services and organisers to make sure the event will operate smoothly from start to finish.

The large scale numbers will be the biggest issue and efforts will be made to clear 'bottlenecks' at peak periods.

Last year, the likes of Scholes Lane was made one-way to cope with crowds and other streets will be looked at this time.

'The one thing about the Fleadh is that it is a huge positive for the town and for the people of the town and we will be doing our very best to make sure it is a success,' the supt added.

People should be aware that Fleadh TV will be operating from the Abbey car park this year from Thursday to Sunday and that will add to numbers in that area.

The town bus routes will be impacted as a result and people should check with their providers this week to prepare for disruption for the week of the event.
