Adams fears Annagassan's PO closure is big loss
Gerry Adams, TD for Louth and Meath East, has said that the Government's decision to close the post office in Annagassan could have very negative impacts on the community there.
"The location of Annagassan Post Office, in the local convenience store, provided easy access to postal services for local people. There is a danger that the loss of the post office could reduce footfall to the shop also,' he stated.
"I have spoken to Annagassan residents who have told me that the local store is very useful, particularly for elderly people who use it to pay their electricity and phone bills.
"The local store also acts as a community hub with staff there signposting people to other services. It is also an invaluable point for social contact and interaction. There are numerous services which could be delivered via post offices which would help keep employment and services in rural areas.'
It has also been revealed that the post offices in Bellewstown and Clonalvy are also to close.
