Works begins on new Bettystown footpath

Work on the long-awaited footpath from Bettystown to the Educational Campus started last week.

The news has been welcomed by local Councillor Sharon Tolan.

'It is unfortunate that these works are about to start when the schools are due back from the summer break, and I would warn people to expect some disruption and delays,' she said.

It had been hoped the footpath and traffic calming works for the Coast Road in Bettystown would have been completed during the summer period, but because of delays with works carried out by Eircom, this project could not start construction until last week.

'With almost 2000 children attending schools at the Educational Campus, this footpath and traffic calming is desperately needed, and I would not like to see them delayed any further, so I am asking everyone to please be patient.

'The council and the contractor have decided to complete the project in phases to minimise disruption.'
