TWO local women have been honoured with silver medals for their outstanding medical work.

Just two people from the Republic of Ireland have received the medals from the Institute of Biomedical Science in London, namely Georgina Clarke from Drogheda and Sr. Davnet O'Kane MMM.

The medals mark their 50 years service to science, with Georgina spending 43 years in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. Georgina, from Forest Hills, was the chief medical scientist in haematology at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. A post from which she retired in 2004.

Sr Davnet, who is a Fellow of the Institute with Georgina, is a native of Culdaff, Co. Donegal, and is a member of Medical Missionaries of Mary. She worked in Angola, Ethiopia and Uganda and now lives at Beechgrove.

Sr. Davnet was quick to praise Georgina's role in the Lourdes where she was a very popular member of staff.
