Gardai to meet Boyne/CABLE in annual match
The Annual Garda Charity Soccer Match takes place on Saturday July 20th at 3pm in United Park. Drogheda where the local gardai play a representative team from the BOYNE and CABLE Garda Youth Diversion Projects.
This year's charity is jointly in aid of Aoibheann's Pink Tie and Ella Hewitt, a 4 year old local child who suffers from a rare condition.
Ella was diagnosed with Bilateral Wilms tumour at 4 months old and has been through four years of treatment.
Ella is on a programme called the 'beads of courage' which give children a bead for every invasive procedure such as bloods withdrawals, operations, lines placements, chemotherapy to name a few. Ella has over 1,500 of these beads.
Currently Ella is anephric (both kidneys removed) and a year and half on Peritoneal dialysis for 12 hours a day. She takes 10 plus medications a day to cover some of the functions of the kidney. She is restricted in her daily fluid intake - 400ml maximum and her renal diet is very limited.
Ella needed to be two years post chemotherapy to start the process towards getting on the transplant list which she is now on and currently working towards a live donor.
The money raised from this event will go towards helping Ella and her family with the increasing and consistent monetary cost that comes with maintaining her treatment.
As well as the good cause, the game promises to be a most competitive one as ever!
