Delight as Collon station to reopen but Ardee issues remain

There was a big boost for Collon at last week's area policing committee meeting when it was revealed by Supt Andrew Watters that the local garda station is to reopen.

It will operate from 9-5pm, Monday to Friday.

However, the opening hours for the Ardee station were questioned by Cllr Jim Tenanty who is fielding comments from locals about the frequency of the system.

One major headache is for families trying to secure passports and arriving at the station and finding in closed and unsure when it will be manned.

'It could be nine or ten at night and that's too late for families,' he stated.

He even asked if a timetable could be put up, so people would know when it was open.

Supt Andrew Watters said that it should be open at night, but there was an issue with resources and hours of opening to the public were limited.

He said Ardee would house probation gardai and that may help address the numbers.
