Christmas market in 2019

Drogheda will have a Christmas market in 2019, according to Mayor Frank Godfrey who said that organisational meetings are ongoing.

'We have done our research on this, with members of our group going to Galway to meet the organisers of the Galway Christmas Markets and we will be up-and-running in Drogheda for December 2019,' explained Mayor Godfrey.

Saying that there is a great interest in having a Christmas market in the town, Mayor Godfrey vowed that it would happen.

'People go abroad to go to Christmas Markets - let's have one in Drogheda and boost our shopping spend locally. Let's encourage people come to Drogheda!'

It is planned to pedestrianise West Street, closing it between Shop Street and Stockwell Street for the duration of the Christmas Market.

'It's important that we move quickly and get this off the ground,' said Mayor Godfrey.

Next meeting is on Wednesday 9 January at 7pm in The Westcourt Hotel.

All are welcome to come along on the night to discuss the plan.
