Around the districts: Tullyallen, Collon, Laytown - Bettystown

Tullyallen: Glen Emmets Oskars - It's all go now with the roles for the Glen Emmets 'A Night at the OsKaR's' decided.

The big night is set for 2nd November 2019 in City North Hotel. The Glen Emmets members & Parishioners will re-create and film in the local area key movie pieces from great movies, including The Field, The Full Monty, Sister Act, Walk the Line, Saving Private Ryan, Michael Collins & the Snapper. This is going to be EPIC.

There are some sponsorship packages still left with lots of different budgets catered for along with sponsors for commemorative brochure that will be produced for the night. Contact pro.glenemets@gmailcom or contact any member of the Glen Emmets Committee if you would like to contribute to this fantastic fundraiser that will help complete the floodlights and start to develop a second pitch.

Slimming World Times

Tullyallen Slimming World classes are on every Thursday. The first class is 5pm and the second is 7pm. They will be there giving plenty of inspiration, motivation and encouragement to everyone who comes along.

Harry Potter Movie Night

Calling all Harry Potter fans out there. The team behind the Snapper OsKaRs movie are raising funds to get their movie made.

There will be a Harry Potter Movie Night in the Glen Emmets Club House this Friday 13th September from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. Bring a bean bag or cushion, snacks will be provided and entry is just €5.

There will be so many lines that we have all heard before and one of the most famous ones from Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone "I hope you're pleased with yourselves. We could all have been killed - or worse, expelled. Now if you don't mind, I'm going to bed".

Lotto results

Results for the Glen Emmets Lotto held 3rd September. The Grand Prize Draw was for €7,500 and there was no winner. The numbers drawn were 11, 16, 25 & 29. The 4 Lucky Dip winners who receive €25 are Margaret Ahern, P. Reilly, Alex Conaghy & Chris Clarke.

Next week's draw is €7,600. Tickets are on sale in Centra Tullyallen or any committee member.

Men's Shed

The Tullyallen Men's Shed have announced a fundraiser for Saturday, 5th October with Two's company providing the entertainment. Tickets will be available for purchase soon, so keep this date marked for your calendar.

Tullyallen Men's Shed meet up every Tuesday and Friday mornings 10 am till 1 pm why not call into them.

They are currently in the Glen Emmets GFC Clubhouse. They have Bowls, Pool, Darts, Rings, Cards so why not call in for a chat and a cuppa. Everyone has something to offer in the Shed. All new members will be most welcome.

Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others

A great initiative for the ladies of the parish is "Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others". This is aimed at past players & ladies from non-LGFA background, mothers & non mothers. You just need to be 25+ and not a registered player.

This is a non-competitive environment and is a great social outlet where ladies can learn about Gaelic Football, be physically active and get to meet lots of new people.

Table Quiz

The team behind 'The Field' movie that are taking part in the OsKaRs in November are holding a table quiz. They are trying to raise funds for their 'movie'.

The quiz will be in Dolly Mitchell's this Friday, 13th St 8pm. It costs just €40 for a team of 4, so why not go along and see if you can show off your knowledge and help this team get their movie off to a great start.

Swimming Lessons

The new term sees lots of classes starting or resuming and Drumcar Swimming Pool is no different.

This pool is very close to us here in Tullyallen, it is not too big and if memory serves me right, a lovely temperature. The Parent and Baby classes are Sunday Mornings, the Adult Classes are Wednesday evenings and the Children's lessons are Sunday Mornings and Wednesday evenings. So there is a class in there to suit everyone.

Parish News

Our parish choir is currently seeking new members to continue its ministry in assisting with our Sunday Eucharist, solemn celebrations and other liturgical celebrations in our church throughout the year.

If you feel that you could contribute your gift of singing and your time to the choir then you are most welcome. If you are interested contact Maura Callan our Parish Music/Choir director on (041) 9826807 or feel free to speak to Maura after Mass on Sundays when the choir is singing.

Mellifont Parish Pastoral Council will meet on Thursday the 12th of September at 8.15pm in the Parochial House.

Junior & Senior Infants Parents Evening

There will be a wine and cheese evening on Tuesday, September 24th in Tullyallen National School. This is an open invite to all Junior & Senior Infant parents to come along for a wine & cheese mixer to meet other new parents and the members of the Parents Association.

Marianne from the National Parents Council will be there to talk on the importance of the parents roll in their children's education.

Irish Dancing in the Hall

Great news for Irish Dancing lovers out there.

Aisling Nally from Nally school of Irish Dancing is running an Irish dancing class in the Parish Hall starting Thursday 12th September from 3.45pm to 4.45pm. This is for all children ages 4 plus. Support Our Local Girl

Come out and support local girl Aoife Russell and the Louth ladies when they take on Fermanagh in the TG4 All-Ireland Junior Championship Final in Croke Park, Sunday 15th at 11.45. Duck Race

The team behind the Full Monty in the Glen Emmets OsKaRs to be held in November are holding a Duck Race to help secure funds to make their movie.

Entry is €10 per duck and the prize fund is at €1,000. The race will take place Saturday, 12th October at 4pm and duck numbers will be allocated before the race.

Contact any member of the cast or the Pharmacy (who are sponsoring the race) to buy your duck.

Tullyallen Red Cross

Congratulations to Ronald, Paddy and Alan from Tullyallen Red Cross on receipt of their EFR certificates at a recent presentation night at Slane Red Cross. Congratulations also to members from Slane, Ashbourne, Dundalk and Carlingford branches who also received their certificates on the night.

The Tullyallen Red Cross would like to say a huge thank you to all the instructors for their help and support on the recent course.

Pre-Loved Dress & Handbag Event

The team behind "Walk the Line", "Saving Private Ryan" and "Sister Act" have come up with a novel way to raise funds for their movies. They are holding a Pre-Loved Dress and handbag event on Friday, 4th October at 7.30 in the Parish Hall.

Entry is just €10, there will be make up and beauty style tips, Prosecco & cupcake reception. But if you can donate anything that will help the night go with a bang, contact Linda, Janet or Dee in the Glen Emmets.

This will certainly be great night for the ladies and not one to be missed.

Laytown Races

The annual Laytown Race meeting will take place this Wednesday 11th September with first race at 4p.m. approx. Laytown races occupies a unique position in the Irish and British racing calendar as it is the only race event run on a beach under the rules of the Turf Club.

L/B Bridge Club

Laytown and Bettystown Bridge Club will recommence activities on Sept 16th.

Sonairte volunteers needed

Sonairte (Laytown) are looking for volunteers!

For those who don't know, Sonairte is mostly run by volunteers, we are in need of extra hands for the summer. with many roles available especially in the garden, helping our gardeners produce fresh organic food for our shop.

The centre is open every Friday, Saturday & Sunday for nature walks and the walled garden.

Drivers wanted

The Irish Cancer Society's Volunteer Driver Service is looking for volunteer drivers in Meath who will drive patients to and from their chemotherapy appointments in their partner Dublin hospitals.

Annual Hospice Coffee Morning

East Meath Hospice Association invite you to join us for Irelands Biggest Coffee Morning, on Thursday 19th September.

We are delighted once again to be welcomed by our Hosts in East Meath.

Our venues are Whytes Bar & Restaurant Stamullen, Limekiln Julianstown, Reddans of Bettystown and Bellewstown Community Centre.

All funds raised will be spent locally to provide services for people with a diagnosis of cancer. These services include Volunteer Driving Service to take patients to Hospital appointments door to door free of charge.

We also have a comfort fund to provide equipment as needed, or some financial support

We look forward to seeing you on the day for coffee and chat, committee members will be glad to answer any questions. Times 10 am to 12.30 pm
