Clean Coast Seminar/Roadshow

The Termonfeckin and District Community Group are hosting a Clean Coast Seminar/Roadshow in conjunction with Louth County Council, An Taisce and Failte Ireland in An Grianan on Tuesday April 16th at 11.00 am. In 2018 there were 59 Green Coast Awards given to Irish beaches. An application has been submitted for Seapoint Beach, Termonfeckin to achieve this award for 2019. This could be the first Green Coast Award in Co. Louth. This seminar will look at what the award represents and an opportunity for the local beach guardianship to showcase their involvement. Please R.S.V.P. if you would like to attend to agray@eeu.antaisce.org

Termonfeckin & District Community Group

Termonfeckin & District Community Group are continuing with our village tidy-up for Spring 2019. We intend to put up hanging baskets and planters around the village, like in 2018 but with more additions too. We also plan to tidy up green areas and do more planting in these areas too.

We also have some biodiversity plans such such as Bug Hotel, Wormery and Wild Flower areas. We have been lucky to receive some funding in 2019 but this is well short of the costs involved in the planned work. We are hoping that village residents and businesses will consider donating to help us with this tidy up.

We would also gratefully appreciate any volunteers who could help with tidying, planting, watering etc. If you are interested, please contact Owen Kirwan at 086-2605026 or Maria Patterson at ‪086-6021280‬ or accounts@barnhill.ie. Any help would be really appreciated and would help us to ensure that Termonfeckin looks its best for 2019.

Speed Limits

New Statutory Speed Limits will be enforced in parts of County Louth on May 14th. Some of the changed speed limits are in Termonfeckin and Baltray.

According to local Cllr. Oliver Tully, the 50kph speed limit has been extended on the Sheetland Road to beyond the entrance to the Termonfeckin Celtic football field. On the Baltray Road (R167) there are also changes. On approaching Termonfeckin from Baltray, there will be a 60kph limit from the start of Newtown Cottages/Belfaddock to just before the entrance to An-Grianan where the limit then becomes 50kph.

New 50kph speed limits have also been erected both sides of the junction into Baltray with the R167 road, 200 metres from the junction on the Termonfeckin side and 100 metres on the Queensboro side. Although they won't be enforced until May 14th, it is most likely that these new limits could attract speed cameras and Cllr Tully is advising motorists to be aware of the new limits and avoid getting penalty points.

Public Meeting

There will be a public meeting for local residents, business owners and local clubs of Termonfeckin and surrounding areas in Forge Field Coffee Shop on Monday April 15th at 7pm. There will also be an environmental activist, Mairead Finnegan on hand to offer suggestions on how to reduce waste and promote a better environment.
