Moorechuch Cemetery thanks
The Parish Office at Preston Hill would like to extend its most grateful thanks and appreciation to the large crowd who attended the recently held Blessing of the Graves at Moorechurch Cemetery and a special word of thanks to the following:
Thanks to Bridie Kirwan and the Ministers of the Eucharist and Word and to Nicholas Hughes for setting up the Altar. Sincere thanks also to Denis O'Flaherty, Jim Woods, Declan Russell, and Barry Woods for their Supervision and security presence. We would also like to thank Philip McCormack and Christy Martin for the use of their fields for car parking, Philip McCormack Jnr for providing the Electricity and Paudge Moore for looking after the sound system, and all who provided invaluable help on the day for which we are sincerely grateful.
Finally, thanks to Niamh Uí Loinsigh, for securing a grant to help with maintenance of the cemetery, Michael and his team from the Co. Council for providing and taking away the bins, Brendan for the great job he did cutting the grass, and to Anne Woods for all her hard work behind the scenes liaising with individuals to keep the cemetery in tip top condition.
The good weather of late has once again brought in an early harvest of crops across the rural townlands of the parish. Harvesters and tractors, etc. have been working around the clock; taking advantage of the dry and fine climate, resulting in the smaller country roads witnessing an increase in heavy agricultural machinery.
All road users, from pedestrians, walkers, joggers, cyclists and motorists should be extra vigilant at this particular time of the year as many of these large machines take up most of the road-space.
On a lighter note, someone has suggested that the agricultural vehicles `carrying loads of straw and hay through Stamullen village should have a tarpaulin-type covering on top so as to prevent the scattering of loose straw & hay along the road through the village`. However, the sight of such vehicles passing through the village and `scattering loose hay & straw all over the place`, is also very much a reminder that Stamullen, as a parish with all its townlands, still retains this rural connection and tradition in an ever-expanding urban setting transforming the village into that of a growing town. This, `loose scattering of hay and straw` won't be lying around for too long anyway once the south-west autumn winds begin to sweep through the parish and it`s nice to be reminded of the changing seasons as agricultural machinery moves in and out of and across the parish, particularly now at Lughnasadh, when the surrounding landscape is at its most beautiful.
