Poker Classic

The Stamullen Road Club will host their annual Poker Classic in Whytes of Stamullen this coming Friday evening, November 30th. This event, which is eagerly awaited by many every year and, in many ways, kicks off the festive season in Stamullen, will be tinged with more than a little sadness this year following the tragic and sudden passing of the club`s anchor-man, the one and only Gaybo Howard. Well done to the club and to their sponsors and indeed the management and staff at Whytes of Stamullen in coming together to make sure this event went ahead.

Live music was provided on the night by Seamus (Accordion) and Fidelma Bellew (Keyboard) and Geraldine Smith (Fiddle), while Fear an Ti, John Mc Evoy called the Sets. There was a great attendance present for what was a thoroughly enjoyable nights dancing. Thanks to all involved in this event. A particular thanks to the Management and Staff of The Morning Star for their hospitality. and the lovely refreshments served. Please support local businesses, they support us in many ways. Buiochas aris.

Laurel Hill Works

The works carried out on the Laurel Hill, Collon are to be welcomed, and should improve the situation significantly. However, there is a case to be made for further major works to be carried out at this location, which we hope will happen eventually. What's done so far is appreciated.

Potholes in the District

There are a number of whoppers of potholes in the District, in particular on the Broomfield and Clogher Roads. There are a couple of particularly dangerous potholes on the Broomfield Road. Residents can't wait until the road works promised for next year are carried out. These potholes need to be filled urgently, before they cause an accident, and then of course it will be too late. No potholes in Dublin, I'm told!

Community Alert

It's that time of year again, short daylight hours and long dark evenings and nights. Please call on elderly relatives and neighbours, especially those living alone. See that they have all their needs, food, heat, light and fuel for fires and anything else that they may need. It is often difficult for the elderly to get out and about to get shopping at this time of year, you may be able to help out in this regard. Also, please make sure that all Personal Socially Monitored Alarms are working as required. You can check out their operation by pressing the pendant button, when you should get a response from personnel in the Monitoring Station within seconds. It's also time to make sure that Security Lighting is working correctly. Please make Community Alert a priority in the months ahead and beyond.

TUS vacancy

A TUS vacancy will exist shortly with Broomfield and District Residents Association. The Work Programme involves Care-taking duties in and around Teach Raithneach, as well as the maintenance and up-keep of a number of amenities throughout the District. If you think you are eligible to participate in this Scheme, then please contact the Gerard on 087 2729154 for more information. Self referral forms are available. These allow you to self-refer to Meath Partnership, the body who have responsibility for implementing the TUS Scheme in this area.

Riding High

Huge congratulations goes out to local riders Noel Callaghan and Ruth Cody from Piperstown , who finished first & second in the Autumn Dressage League at Carlingford Lough Equestrian Centre on the weekend before last. Very fittingly, Noel dedicated his win to his late nephew and godson , Philip Dowling , who sadly passed away in October. Beautiful gesture for a beautiful person, Noel.

Shield Success

Well done to Naomh Mairtin U12 team who captured the Division 1 Shield Championship. Carla Rowe, Dublin's player of the match at this year's All Ireland Final, joined The Mairtin's girls for the medals presentation. She gave them an intriguing talk on her numerous achievements to date, having played in no less than 12 All Ireland finals from the underage level upwards. An act, however daunting, very much worth aspiring to following.
