Golf Classic

Slane Community Centre will hold a golf classic on Friday, May 24th, at Ashbourne Golf Club. Tee times are available from 12.30 - 5pm and the cost per team of four is €400. This includes snack on the ninth hole and steak dinner in the clubhouse. Prizes for first and second placed teams as well as longest drive and nearest the pin. All funds raised will go towards the building of a community centre and sports hall in Slane. Further information can be had from

Diabetes prevention

Do you want to improve your health and decrease the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes? A free education programme aimed at people with increased risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, overweight or family history will take place in the Navan Education Centre, Athlumney, Navan, on Monday May 13th and May 20th, from 10am to 1pm. Walking Group

Broomfield & District Residents Association Walk Group resume their Tuesday evening walks on April 16th, from Teach Raithneach, Collon. Sunday walks (noon to 1pm) continue at Littlewood, Slane, Oldbridge and Monks of Collon on alternate weeks. All welcome, further details from Josie at 086 4458108.

Cairde/Meals on Wheels fundraiser

The Donore and Rosnaree Drama Group's production of 'Nobody's Talking To Me' by Tommy Marren on Wednesday night, April 3rd is being hosted by Slane Red Cross with all proceeds going to Slane Cairde/Meals on Wheels. The show is in the Droichead Arts Centre, Drogheda and commences at 8pm. Tickets can be purchased from any member of Slane Red Cross or phone 087 2630182/ 086 3496888.

Table quiz

Rathkenny/Slane Ladies GFC are holding a table quiz in the Sallygardens on Friday night, April 5th to raise funds for the coming season. Table of four is €40 and there are some great prizes to be won. There will also be a raffle on the night as well as live music.

Chrism Mass

A bus will go from Slane to the Chrism Mass in Mullingar on Wednesday, April 17th, leaving the church carpark at 5pm. To book a place contact Teresa on 087 6970421.

Rory Smith Memorial Run

A motorbike social run in memory of the late Rory Smith takes place on Easter Sunday, starting and finishing from the Boyne Valley Inn. All money collected will be donated to the NICU in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital which cares for premature babies in intensive care as well as a worthy local cause. Sign up from 11am and leaving at noon. Tea and coffee will be provided before the start and soup and sandwiches afterwards. Further details from Greg on 0876914711. Rory Smith was killed in a motorbike accident three years ago while taking part in a charity poker run to raise money for SOSAD.

Slane Castle 5K

Online registration is now open for the 5th Slane Castle 5km trail run/walk which takes place on Sunday, May 12, (10am) in the majestic grounds of Slane Castle. You can register €15 for adults online, €20 on the day and €5 for under-16s on the day. All proceeds are in aid of St Patrick's National School, Slane. This event is a great morning out for the whole family. The 5k route takes you around the castle grounds, along the river and through the forest with the castle as a backdrop. There will be medals for all who take part, t-shirts for under 16's and for the first 200 adults on the day. The refreshments and home baked goods at the finish line are worth the trip alone! This year the organisers hope to have a surprise in store, so keep an eye out for updates over the coming weeks.

Slane Spinners

Registration for Slane Spinners 11th annual cycle run in aid of SOSAD is now open at and it takes place on Saturday, May 11th, starting and finishing at Stackallen Tennis and Pitch and Putt Club where there is ample facilities for parking cars etc. There are three different routes, 105km, 100km or the 50km fun run. You can also sign up on the day from 8am with the cycle commencing at 9.30am sharp. Sign on fee is €20 for Cycling Ireland members, €25 for non members. Helmets are compulsory and soup and sandwiches will be available in the clubhouse on return. The longer distances will take in some lovely scenery along the coast at Clogherhead and Annagassan before heading for Drumconrath. Close to 300 cyclists took part in last years event.

Hothouse Flowers

The Conyngham Arms Hotel will host the brilliant Hothouse Flowers in concert on Easter Sunday night, April 21st. The world renowned rock group that combines traditional Irish music with influences from soul, gospel and rock performed recently at the Temple Bar Tradfest and have a number of other concerts coming up. Dates for the diary

Confirmation this year in Slane will take place on Wednesday, May 8th. First Communion is on Saturday, May 18th. Blessing of the graves in Monknewstown, Dowth and Fennor is on Sunday, May 26th, and on Hill of Slane and St Erc's Cemetery on Sunday, June 2nd.

Rathkenny Revels

Rathkenny Revels are back again for an incredible 55th year. The 2019 shows are on April 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th at 8pm with a 3pm matinee on Sunday, April 14th in Rathkenny Hall. For bookings please phone (after 6pm only) 046 9024176 or 087 7370930.

Mary Duff in concert

Country music star Mary Duff and guests will perform in the Church of the Holy Cross, Lobinstown on Easter Monday, April 22nd, at 8pm. Guests include Eugene Ginty, as well as Mary's dad, Tom Duff, and her niece Emma Duff. The concert is a fundraiser for Syddan GFC. Tickets are on sale from Lobinstown Post Office, Donoghue's Woodtown, Callaghan's Butcher's Ardee, The Lobinstown Inn as well as Syddan GFC committee members.

Community Centre

St. Fechin's GAA will host an information meeting regarding the new community centre this Thursday, April 4th. The meeting takes place in the Credit Union Offices, Big Street, Termonfeckin at 9pm. All are welcome.

St. Fechin's Lotto

The numbers drawn were 2, 6, 9 and 18. There was no winner of the jackpot. The €100 winner was Jo Mooney. Winners of €20 were Brian Devlin, P. Van Strien, Fiona Rath, Angela Egan and Jenny and Stuart Farrell. The jackpot is now at €4,200 and is sponsored by Madden's Centra, Termonfeckin.


'Who Wants To Be A Thousandaire?' Do you?. If so come along to the Westcourt Hotel, Drogheda on Friday, May 3rd at 8pm if you fancy your chances. Easter Flowers

The 'Easter Extravaganza of Flowers' hosted by the Termonfeckin Parish Pastoral Council in Scoil Mhuire gan Smal, Sandpit last Wednesday proved to be a very successful and enjoyable night. Prizewinning florist Christopher White did an excellent job with his flower arranging skills and in the raffle afterwards some lucky people in attendance managed to win some of the flower arrangements. Proceeds were in aid of an outreach mission to St. Monica's Parish in Lusaka, Zambia, recently undertaken by the Parish Pastoral Council. Many thanks to all who supported the event.

Termonfeckin Macra

Set Dancing

Set dancing is held on Thursday nights in Sandpit Hall at 8.30pm. Beginners are welcome. This is a great way to keep in shape and learn the art of set dancing.

Seapoint Pitch & Putt

The previous weekend's club competition was an 18 Gross, results: Senior-1st: Fechin Rath 43, 2nd: Michael Bedford 46 (ob9 21). Inter-1st: Colin Campbell 47, 2nd: Eoin Murphy 51. Junior-1st: Paddy Davis 52 (ob9 24), 2nd: Brian Fitzpatrick 52. Ladies 0-10: 1st: Marlo Everitt 53, 2nd: Noelene Bedford 55 (ob9 29). Ladies- 11-18: 1st: Ann Ward 57 (ob6 18), 2nd: Joanne Cooney 57. CSS: 46. The competition last weekend was an 18 Nett.

Stations of the Cross led by the Parish Pastoral Council take place every Sunday evening during Lent in the Church of the Immaculate Conception at 7.30pm. Also during Lent, Lectio Divina takes place in the parochial house on Wednesday evenings at 8pm. This involves praying and studying the Sunday Scriptures for Lent. All are welcome.


Eucharistic Adoration takes place on Monday evenings from 7-8pm in the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Why not come and spend some quiet time in the presence of the Lord.
