CE supervisors strike called off

The Community Employment Scheme Supervisors Strike, scheduled to take place all week, last week, was called off on the previous Friday, mid afternoon. The strike notice was served earlier because a 2008 Labour Court Ruling recommending that an agreed Pension Scheme be introduced for the CE Supervisors and Assistant Supervisors had not yet come to fruition. This was further committed to in the Lansdowne Road Agreement of 2015 and again in a Dail Vote in 2018 that supported a call for the implementation of a Pension Scheme for CE Supervisors.

Community Groups that avail of the services of Community Employment Scheme Participants and their Supervisors should acquaint themselves with the details of this long running saga. It affects us all. The Labour Court is part and parcel of the States Industrial Relations Machinery, whose rulings should be respected.

The CE Schemes are a God-send to Community Organisations the length and breadth of the country. The CE Supervisors are key players in these Schemes, as indeed are the Participants, and the Community Organisations who facilitate the Schemes. The Supervisors should and must be supported.

Please take the opportunity to let your Public Representatives know your feelings on this issue, as they press the flesh and look for your vote. By supporting the CE Supervisors, you are also striking a blow for Voluntary Community Organisations, as they offer the best value for money that the State currently enjoys.
