Slane: Gold at Bloom - Congratulations to Aileen Muldoon Byrne, Boyne Garden Centre, Slane who scooped a prestigious award at Bloom 2019 recently. Aileen was the 'Best in Show Winner' (Nursery and Floral Pavilion).

The judges singled out Aileen 'for her ability to create an impactful but elegantly restrained horticultural composition worthy of a gold medal at any of the best shows in the world.'

Tidy Towns draw

The Slane Tidy Towns draw for May was held in Boyles and the winners were: €100 Collette McDonnell, €60 Peter Whelan, €50 Debbie Harding,€40 James Sheridan, €30 Andrina Doggett. The next draw takes place in Lynch's Bar on Friday June 28th. To join the draw contact John at 087 2644603.

The Tidy Towns agm takes place this Tuesday evening, June 11th, in the Village Inn at 8pm. New volunteers are always needed to continue the great work of the small hard working committee who do so much to have the village looking its best throughout the year.

Community Centre Golf Classic

Slane Community Centre held a very successful Golf Classic fundraiser at Ashbourne Golf Club recently and the organising committee would like to thank everyone who took part, sponsored or helped out in any way. The team from Cullen Property Management scooped first prize, with Kelly's Ashbourne in second place and third were Ethos Engineering.

The nearest to the pin was won by Mick English and the longest drive prize went to Stephen Newman.

Bus shelter petition

Slane Tourism in conjunction with Slane Community Forum are looking for all members of the community in Slane and surrounding areas to sign a petition looking for bus shelters in Slane. Call into The Hub and sign today for this much needed amenity.

Forum AGM

The Slane Community Forum agm takes place this Wednesday, June 12th, at 7.30pm, in Slane Credit Union.

Tús scheme

Are you unemployed and would like to avail of 19.5 hours work placement in your local area?

Meath Partnership is currently seeking to expand the number of participants on the Tús Scheme. Tús is a one year community work placement scheme for people who are unemployed for more than 12 months and in receipt of a jobseeker's payment.

Participants receive a top up payment while maintaining all secondary benefits.

Minimum payment is €225.50 per week. You will also receive dedicated one to one career support, CV preparation, interview

Slane History EGM

Slane History and Archaeology Society have an Extraordinary General Meeting to review their constitution this Thursday, June 13th, at 8pm in the Slane Youth Cafe.

Other important matters will be discussed and there will also be information regarding the trip to Killua Castle, Clonmellon, later in the month.

Drink Tea for MND

Let's Drink Tea for MND is a great way to gather some friends and raise funds for people living with Motor Neurone Disease. Please join us on Friday, June 21st in the Westcourt Hotel Drogheda from 10.30am - 1-30. Raffle will be held on the day.

GAA Cúl Camps

With the school holidays fast approaching its almost time to register for the Kellogg's GAA Cúl Camps 2019 where children aged six to 13 can enjoy a fun action-packed week of GAA games with qualified coaches. The camps are from 10am to 2.30pm each day Monday till Friday, and a number of local clubs are hosting camps over the summer months.

The camp in Drumconrath GAA starts on Monday, July 1st; Duleek-Bellewstown and Rathkenny Monday, July 8th; Seneschalstown Monday, July 15th; St Mary's Donore Monday, July 29th. Register at gaa.ie/kelloggsculcamps.

Boyne Valley Food Series

The Brabazon Restaurant at Tankardstown House will host their annual Boyne Valley Flavours Food Series event this Thursday June 13th commencing at 7pm.

This year it's 'From Valley to Valley' at Tankardstown House and guests will enjoy a delicious menu based on produce from the Boyne Valley, paired with wines from some of the finest valleys of Europe and beyond.

After recently receiving the award for Best Hotel Restaurant in Leinster at the RAI Restaurant Awards 2019, the Brabazon team are keen to impress diners at their first themed dinner event of the year.

Family Fun Day

Meath Food Safari 2019

Starting and finishing in Slane Village on Sunday, June 23rd, the food safari visits four farms in the surrounding area.

On each farm you will meet the farmer and food producer who will tell you about their business and have some lovely local produce to taste.

A bus will be provided for the tour to visit Boyne Valley Farmhouse cheese and see the herd of goats, hear about the cheesemaking process and taste lovely cheese; Slane Cider Mill: hear and see how cider is made and then drink different types; Rock Farm Slane: see this working organic farm with a wide variety of animals and plants, and eat some tasty produce from it; Newgrange Gold: hear all about how rapeseed oil is grown and made and then taste a few flavours; Boyles Pub: finish with a BBQ in the bear garden with food made from the farm visited.

Midsummer Walk

Plans are well underway for 'A Midsummer Walk for the Homeless 2019' which takes place on Saturday, June 22nd, with the event aimed at generating funds for the Fr Peter McVerry Trust. This is the third year the event has been held and so far it has generated €27,000 for the McVerry Trust.

The full 32km walk starts from the Hill of Tara at 10am and proceeds to Newgrange. There is also a shorter option which includes a scenic stroll along the banks of the Boyne from Navan to Newgrange with some opting to end their walk at Slane.

This 'half walk' option is about 22km and takes about four hours (Navan to Slane is about 2.5 hours). The shorter walk leaves from the Ramparts, Navan at noon.

There are water stations and toilet facilities along the way with refreshments afterwards. The cost of taking part is €50 for the full walk (Tara to Newgrange / Bru Na Boinne) and €30 for the half walk (Navan to Newgrange) For further details see Facebook 'A Midsummer Walk for the Homeless 2019.

Pilgrimage to Knock

The annual diocesan pilgrimage to Knock takes place on Sunday, August 11th.

The pilgrimage will be led by Bishop Deenihan and the diocesan choir will also be in attendance.

At the June Monthly Meeting of Broomfield and District Residents Association on Thursday 6th June, a Vote of Sympathy was passed with all Families from the Community who were bereaved recently.

Social Dance

A Social Dance to the musical strains of Eddie Quinn takes place in Teach Raithneach, Starinagh, Collon on Friday 21st June 2019 from 9 pm till late. Raffle, and Light Refreshments served. Admission €10

TUS vacancy

A TUS vacancy exist with Broomfield and District Residents Association. The Work Programme involves Care-taking duties in and around Teach Raithneach, as well as the maintenance and up-keep of a number of amenities throughout the District.
