Around the districts: Laytown/Bettystown, Mornington, Julianstown, Collon and Bellewstown

Laytown/Bettystown - Christmas Lights: Christmas lights will be turned on in Bettystown square this Saturday 1st December, with carol singing by the Scoil and Spioraid Naoimh choir from 5.30p.m. and the lights switch on at 6p.m. There will be traffic restrictions in place from 4pm - 7pm. that evening. For health and safety reasons, the slip road in front of Pats Centra will be closed to traffic and parking. Access to Pat's carpark will not be restricted.

Be Seen & Be Safe

Now that the winter evenings are dark and gloomy it's important to be seen. It's amazing how many people do not wear something bright at night, especially those getting off busses and trains. They do not realise that it is very difficult for drivers to see them in dark clothing. Wear something bright at night, that's the message.

Congrats Colr. Tolan

Local Councillor Sharon Tolan was elected as Chairwoman of Louth & Meath Education and Training Board. She began her public life more than 10 years ago fighting for educational facilities for East Meath so it is fitting that she has taken this post.

Happy Birthday Anne Kiernan

Congratulations to Anne Kiernan of the "Haven" who celebrated her birthday recently among a multitude of friends in the village hotel. Anne's late husband Joe (God rest him) informed me that "Kiernan" was the proper spelling of his surname and not Kieran's which I used in some article at the time. This was in the vein of jocularity.

I had a lot of time for Joe and his family.

Julianstown & District Community Association

Julianstown & District Community Association was delighted to accept The Vacant Premises Award at the recent Meath Co. Co. awards night in the Solstice Theatre, Navan.
