Monasterboice Twinning Association

The recent three day visit by members of the Letham and District Twinning Group to Monasterboice was an outstanding success, thanks to the meticulous planning and hard work of our dedicated twinning committee.

The visit began with a delicious meal in the Monasterboice Inn on Wednesday evening August 14th followed on Thursday and Friday by visits to a number of places of historical interest.

These included the dolmen at Ferney Park, the local monastic site, Newgrange, Slane Castle and distillery, Rokeby Hall and Drumshallon Forge.

Music and dancing were also on the agenda with a visit to John Mc Evoy's set dancing exhibition in Drumshallon.

The visitors also enjoyed a music session courtesy of two very fine local musicians Áine and Eithne Nic an Ríogh. A visit to the TLT in Drogheda was another highlight, where the visitors experienced the magic of the brilliant Kilfenora Céilí Band.

A beautiful plaque was presented to the group as a memento of their visit. The plaque, created by the talented Neil Mc Keller, features the dolmen, the round tower and Muiredeach's Cross.

The visit ended on Saturday morning with an early morning breakfast in Monasterboice Inn.

Congratulations to all who helped to make the visit truly memorable.

A special word of thanks to our generous hosts who welcomed the visitors into their homes and ensured that their stay among us was as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
