Around the districts: Duleek, Slane, Broomfield, Mornington

Duleek: The Hub Duleek - The Hub Adult Training Group Duleek, part of the Talbot Group, are currently running an ETB course with Ability Film, within our services for our members.

This involves our members interviewing members of the public and asking general questions about Duleek. The information gathered and some of the interviews will be developed into a short movie about Duleek.

Once completed the finished product could be shown on social media.

We are seeking volunteers who can give us ten minutes on a Monday morning between 11.30am to 12.30pm. If you would like to volunteer please contact us directly on 041-9823691 or e-mail us on Thehub@talbotgroup.ie your participation would be greatly appreciated.

Duleek ICA

We return after the summer break on Wednesday 18th September in the Prayer Rooms at 8.00pm. New members are always welcome.

Zumba

Zumba classes have resumed after the summer break. The classes are in the Parish Centre on Tuesday nights from 7pm to 8pm. Pay as you go €8 per class. New members welcome.

Duleek Kenpo

Duleek Kenpo resumes in Duleek Parish Centre on Monday 23rd September 2019. Beginners class commencing 7pm Mondays and Wednesdays. To book a place text 086-3658266. Adults and Children welcome.

Tidy Towns draw

The Slane Tidy Towns draw for August was held in the Boyne Valley Inn and the winners were: €100 Miriam Hickey, €60 Karen O'Brien, €50 Paddy Coleman, €40 Des Meagher, €30 P Birch. The next draw takes place in on Friday, September 27th in Boyles pub.

Give blood

The next Blood Bank Clinic in the area is this evening, Tuesday September 10th from 4.30pm - 8pm in Teach Raithneach, Starinagh Collon (Beside Military Museum). It is important that we all remember that many patients in hospital need our blood on a daily basis.

Sean Keane concert

The Johnsons Folk Music Festival Committee have requested those attending the Sean Keane Concert in St Patrick's Church of Ireland, Slane, this Friday evening to give themselves plenty of time to get to the venue.

This is due to ongoing road works in the village.

The concert commences at 8pm and is sold out and no tickets will be available on the night.

Slane Active Retirement

Slane Active Retirement has resumed after the summer break and meet each Tuesday at 3.10pm.

Strawfest at Rock Farm

Strawfest at Rock Farm, Slane (C15 FNP4), takes place on Sunday, September 22nd from 11am - 5pm.

Celebrating the end of the harvest with a farm walk, peek at the glamping and strawbale buildings.

There will be a farmers market on the day, and a pop up BBQ and pizza party in the hay barn. There will also be E-bikes, kayaking, organic farm and glamping tours as well as strawbale building tours throughout the day.

Golf Classic

Slane Wanderer's Soccer Club have their annual Golf Classic at Bellewstown GC on Saturday, October 5th, with tee times 10am - noon.

Team of four costs €120 and includes meal and goody bag. Prizes for the longest drive and nearest the pin.

Three County Cycle

Slane Spinners were out in force for the annual Three County Cycle in aid of the ARC Cancer Support Centre. The cycle started in Slane where local Cllr Wayne Harding, who is also Chairperson of Meath CC, officially started the cycle.

At the start of the event cyclists observed a minute's silence in memory of Mikey Leddy, Sean Lynch and Paul Healion. Along their journey the cyclists placed a wreath at the spot just outside Drumconrath where their good friend Paul Healion tragically lost his life in a road accident.

At Donoghue's Bar in Woodtown, Benny Grogan from the Louth Watch club made a number of presentations, including one to Maria O'Connell for her great support for this special event.

Slane cyclist Larry Clarke thanked all who took part and supported the event, including The Village Inn Slane, Louth Arms Tallanstown, Donoghues Bar Woodtown and Slane Red Cross.

Thanks also to Greg Johnson and Tony McMahon who drove the support vehicles.

Boyle's gig

There are a number of top gigs taking pace at the wonderful music venue which is Boyle's of Slane over the coming weeks. They include Paddy Casey on Thursday, September 19th and tickets at €20 are now on sale. Christy Dignam of Aslan fame, and Joe Jewell play in Boyle's on Thursday, November 28th in what promises to be another great night.

Wedding evening

With the beginning of autumn comes Tankardstown's Autumnal Wedding Evening, taking place on Wednesday, October 9th from 6-8pm.

Hive of activity

Maria's Montessori Pre-School is buzzing with activity these days.

Located in the idyllic rural setting of Starinagh, it's wonderful to see its little pupils enjoying their surroundings, as nature unfolds all around them. The school is: 'Where Big Hearts, shape Little Minds'. Ar feabhas!

Set Dancing

Set Dancing Classes resume for the Autumn on Monday 16th September at 8.30 pm in Teach Raithneach.

Teach Raithneach Art Group start their classes with Mary Mc Donnell on Monday 30th September, from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. Tuesday evening classes with Betty Flanagan resume on 15th October, 7.30 to 9.30 pm. Both classes run for an 8 week term, €80 for the term. All abilities welcome. Laytown Races

This year will be the hundred and fifty-first year for Laytown races, which will be held on Wednesday the 11th September, with the first race at 4.00 pm.

It's a quite unique meeting as it's one of the very few meetings that is held on a beach. We will have a good influx of people from other countries as well which will add to the occasion. All we need is a good sunny day.

Invite you to join us for coffee mornings for hospice on Thursday, September 19th from 10 am to 12.30 pm. This year our hosts are Reddans of Bettystown, all funds raised locally are spent locally to provide services for people with a diagnosis of cancer. Please support.
