Collon: Mighty Mattock - We are on our way... mighty Mattock Rangers scored a fantastic win over Dunlavin in the Leinster Intermediate Championship Semi Final at the weekend. They will face Mullinavat from Kilkenny in the final.

The club is now doing the county proud and who knows, the best might be to come yet.

Joint policing

If you have any issues in the Collon area that the Gardai can help with or advise, then go along to the local Joint Policing Meeting in Ardee Parish Centre on Thursday November 28 at 7.30pm.

Get switched on for Christmas!

The Official Switching On of the Christmas Lights at Teach Raithneach takes place next Friday 29th November starting at 7.30pm. Entertainment, Craic and light refreshments served. All Community Members are cordially invited to attend. Help us to get switched on for Christmas.

Fundraiser for the parish

An Ardee-Collon fundraiser with Gerry Guthrie and special guests Matt Leavy, Lisanne McCreanor-Crosbie and Vintage takes place in Ardee Parish Centre on Thursday 12th December at 8pm.

A beautiful Souvenir Booklet detailing the history of Church of Mary Immaculate, Collon has been prepared by Michael Reid and Seamus Roe. (Copies of the booklet are available from the Parish Office, Church Door, Sacristy and Sesquicentenary Committee). Price €10.

Opening times for war museum

Until 1st February 2020 the Irish Military War museum will only be open Thursday - Sunday (10AM - 5PM) to the general public.

Group and School bookings will still be taken for the above hours and remaining weekdays (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday). The centre is a wonderful place to visit and enjoy.

Teach Raithneach dates for your diary

Christmas Lights

It is the intention of the Development Group to put the Christmas tree and Lights up in the village. Any chance you could lend a hand if only for 1 hour, it would be appreciated, and every time you went up and down Main Street you will get that lovely warm feeling that you helped with the tree and lights. 10am is the proposed starting time so see you all at the bottom of the Main Street. Thank you.

Dates to remember

Saturday next 30th November sees the Annual Polar Plunge taking place at Clogherhead Beach beside Lifeboat Station at 12 noon. Come along and support these people who plunge into the water in aid of "Special Olympics".

Next day, Sunday 1st December, is the Annual Mulled Wine in the Lifeboat Station. This is our way of thanking you all who have supported us in the past and are continuing to do so. Time is 2 - 5pm. See you all there.

Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal

Marella would like to thank everyone who contributed in any way to this year's shoebox appeal. A total of 411 gift filled shoeboxes were collected. The boxes will soon be leaving the Kells Centre for the long journey to Africa.

Duleek Cardiac First Response Group

Thank you to everyone who donated to our recent church gate collection. A total of €1010.01 was raised.

This will help us continue to provide a voluntary cardiac first response service to our community.


Congratulations to Ciara Lynch Burke and her staff from Sage and Stone restaurant, Duleek for winning the "Most Outstanding Boyne Valley Welcome" Award at the Meath Business Awards Night in Dunboyne Castle recently.

The annual Christmas Raffle will take place at our annual Table Quiz on Thursday 5th December in the Carranstown Lodge. 1st prize a Hamper. 2nd prize €100. 3rd prize €50 meat voucher. 4th prize Beauty Hamper. 5th prize Bottle Whiskey. 6th prize Selection of Wines, 7th prize Selection of Chocolates.

Whist Drives

The first half winner was Anto Grendon and the second half was a tie between Mary Gleeson and Maureen Thornton.

Christmas Auction

Cloghertown United FC and Clonalvy Revival Committee are holding the Annual Christmas Auction in Clonalvy School on Sunday 1st December at 2pm. Auction, raffle, Santa and much more! Please join us for some festive cheer and support this community event. Donation of items for auction, cakes and buns for sale and teas welcomed.

Ardcath ICA

The next workshop is on 3rd December when the members will learn how to make a Christmas wreath and centre-piece for the table.

They also hope to travel to the Arts & Craft Fair in the RDS Dublin between 4th and 8th December.
