Experience a taste of Lough Derg on June 9th in Tenure

For some it can be a life-changing experience, for others, a yearly pilgrimage taken in its stride.

But for a group from the locality, Lough Derg has been a place where lifelong friendships have been born - 40 years on.

This year marks that 40th anniversary of the first trip by a local group to the island and they have returned each year since then. They will be off again on July 6, 7 and 8th.

But first of all, they will have a reunion of sorts on Sunday June 9 at 3pm in Tenure church when they celebrate 'A Taste of Lough Derg'.

It will comprise prayer and reflection and a celebration of the Eucharist.

Rose Duff and Mary Maguire have been to the forefront of the trips down the years and are open to welcoming more to join them in 2019.

For some the three days can be tough, but they say there's always a great welcome on the island and people support people from the very start.

'It's a time out and a bit of space for you for a few days,' is how Mary describes it.
