Volunteers lining up for Fleadh

The organising and planning of Fleadh Cheoil 2019 is a mammoth task and has been ongoing since the Fleadh finished last year. Things have picked up the pace recently particularly in relation to the volunteer programme. Volunteers are essential to the Fleadh and last year they contributed over 7,000 hours of their time to making sure the Fleadh was a success for locals and visitors alike.

Louth Volunteer Centre are managing the Fleadh Volunteer Programme on behalf of the Fleadh Cheoil Executive Committee. Manager Gráinne Berrill stated, 'We are really coming into the home straight now, our first volunteer training session is taking place this Wednesday, 26th June and is completely booked out. With less than 50 days to the Fleadh volunteers are getting themselves organised and making sure they get shifts that suit them and their plans for the week'.

Gráinne pointed out that although many are returning to volunteer again in 2019 there is always room for new people to get involved 'We want to give everyone the chance to get involved. The volunteer programme was such a success last year that we are expanding it for 2019 which means there's still plenty of opportunities to help out.'

All volunteers must attend one training session, and there are a series of training dates available throughout July. Anyone over the age of 15 can volunteer, the minimum commitment is just one shift and there are a wide variety of volunteer roles available throughout the week of the Fleadh. With volunteers required from Thursday 8th to Monday 19th August and slots available from morning to night there's bound to be a time that suits. Volunteer forms are available from Louth Volunteer Centre and also in the Tholsel and Drogheda Library.
