Music festival is going green!

Hubert Murphy

Vantastival music and campervan festival has announced it's going green this year, with a number of environmentally friendly initiatives taking place on the festival site at Beaulieu House and Gardens over the June Bank Holiday weekend.

Vantastival has joined forces with award-winning craft brewers O Brother Brewing and the festival's bar will serve a range of the brewery's products in re-usable ecocups, as part of a consious effort to eliminate the use of single use plastics at the event.

Plastic straws have also been banned from the festival site, and coffee-loving attendees are encouraged to bring their own cups to the coffee stalls to be filled.

In addition to the festival bar, Vantastival has a BYOB policy and has teamed up with EU Initiative Every Can Counts to ensure all beverage cans on site are collected and recycled.

'We all enjoy a can, and if it's placed in the right bin it can be recycled into a new can in just 60 days! Every Can Counts reps will be passing out bags for campers to separate their cans and will reward anyone who brings a filled bag to their stand with some great prizes. They'll also be providing games, give-aways and competitions for anyone who wants to recycle and win,' a spokesperson stated.

Young Friends of the Earth Ireland are bringing their "Chew on This" roadshow to Vantastival as well.

'Chew on this' is part of YFOE's ongoing food sovereignty educational series, educating and informing people around growing their own food, sustainable food production and wellbeing. Their workshops at Vantastival will allow people to learn about growing your own food in small spaces, sustainable food production in Ireland, how to find your local community garden, everything you ever wanted to know about carrots, and how to make a seed bomb. They will also bring veggie street theatre and a food-themed treasure hunt to the festival programme.

"Tree Pot & Adopt" workshops are among the other eco-conscious offerings at Vantastival this year. Participants will learn about Irish tree-lore and basic botany, while potting up Irish woodland saplings to take home with them in pots made from recycled waste.

Powered by Volkwagen Commercial Vehicles, Vantastival 2018 will take place from Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd June at Beaulieu. Le Galaxie and The Stunning will headline this year and the full line up can be found at www.vantastival.com/line-up-2018.

3-day, 2-day and single day tickets are on sale now from www.vantastival.com and Eventbrite.ie.
