Experiment in words and images event
Experiment in words and images takes over at Droichead Arts Centre on Saturday July 6th at 8pm when Roger Hudson mounts his poetry cycle "Rebels in Light and Colour" in a dramatised reading.
Well-known Drogheda artists Vivienne Byrne, Garry Maguire and Richard Moore and poet/director Brian Quinn join him in celebrating the lives and work of the famous French Impressionist painters Manet, Monet, Cezanne, Renoir, Morisot, Degas, Pissarro and more - they're all here, captured in the free-flowing words and rhythms of Roger's poems.
"The excitement of exploring new materials, techniques and subjects, the breakthrough ideas behind it, their relationships as a group, the decision to exhibit together, the empathies and rivalries, their struggles with poverty and ridicule, their battle with the art establishment, their sheer determination to stay true to their convictions, the treachery of their bodies that let them down by arthritis, diabetes and blindness, the women who joined them and supported them. These are the stories we will tell," says Roger.
"Fascinating stories about fascinating characters that I just had to tell in my own way," says Roger, "and we've dramatised them in the style of my earlier experimental group Word Jungle."
With thanks to Create Louth and Droichead Arts Centre for making this experiment possible.
