Drogheda images on view in the library
Mayor Frank Godfrey was on hand to open the Drogheda Photographic Club exhibition at Drogheda library, with the display running until after Christmas.
'We should be very proud of the Drogheda Club as it has won more awards than any other photography club in Ireland - and in 2010, it was ranked third in the world!! That is some achievement! Many members have represented Ireland internationally too. 'As you know, the club was founded back in 1971 by Paul Maher and Patsy Reilly. It has grown a lot since then. The work of the members ranges through all genres of photography from landscape to portraiture, and so on. It is just wonderful to see,' he added.
He made mention of his good friends, Des Clinton and John Butler, and to Adrian from Limerick, for whom the club has turned into family. In August of this year, club members documented all aspects of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Drogheda and mounted an exhibition in the AIB bank recently. These images covered music, singing, dancing, busking, spectating, and everything connected with the Fleadh.
