Drogheda aims for the Fleadh in 2018
Well done to everyone who played their part in showing the Leinster National Fleadh Cheoil delegates around town recently.
They got to see the very best of what we have here - from the theatres to the schools to the majestic streets - all with the aim of securing the Fleadh for Drogheda in 2018.
The group behind this campaign have been working away behind the scenes for years now and I hope 2018 will be their year to shine.
The judges were bused into town from City North and got a look at the Highlanes and old images of the town before 'Cromwell' met them at The Tholsel!
The likes of Padraig Kierans, Karen Devine, Lolo Robinson, Cllr Richie Culhane, Colin Maher of the St John Ambulance, Supt Andrew Watters and Louth CC CE Joan Martin briefed them on the town's capabilities before they got to see St Peter's, Bru, some of the local schools that could host the finals and then back for City North after a six hour introduction.
Of course, national president of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCE) is Meath woman Ann Finnegan, so hopefully Ann can help swing it for her neighbours in Louth. No pressure!
Hosting the event would open Irish music to a new audience in many ways and bring millions of euro to the region.
