Culture Night at Ardee Library
Enjoy and participate in music, song and dance with local groups in Ardee Library led by members of the Ardee Concert Band and Oriel Traditional Orchestra for Culture Night on September 20 (7-8.30pm)
For Culture Night 2019, members of the Oriel Traditional Orchestra and Ardee Intermezzo Ensemble will be joined by local school children in a celebration of local music-making. There is an opportunity for audience participation in some singing and dancing and the evening will culminate in a performance of the song 'Dilín ó Deamhas' by all present.
Ardee Intermezzo Ensemble is part of the award winning Ardee Concert Band and is one of four performing groups within the band. There are currently 30 members and they have played at many events in Ardee over the past number of years. They meet twice every week under the direction of Kevin Reilly and they are open to new members who can play a wind, brass or percussion instrument.
The Oriel Traditional Orchestra is a cross-border, inter-generational community orchestra whose members come primarily from Louth, Meath, Monaghan and Armagh. The OTO concentrates on Irish traditional music repertoire from the Oriel region arranged especially for the orchestra. The orchestra have performed locally in Co. Louth and at festivals around Ireland including Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Drogheda. Their repertoire includes music Ardee-based composers Adéle Commins and Daithí Kearney who will teach some Irish song and dance during the evening.
