Upton's Wayne Lorden scores 132/1 double
Bandon jockey Wayne Lorden was in splendid double winning form at the opening stage of the four-day August festival in Killarney last Wednesday, for a lucrative 132/1 double.
He won the listed Vincent O'Brien ruby stakes value €26,000, for Tipperary trainer Tommy Stack on 10/1 chance Wannabebetter, closing under pressure to lead in the final furlong he syayed on well to win going away at the finish, prompting the trainer to say "it did not surprise me she won as she always had plenty of ability, the ground out there is beautiful."
Lorden completed his two-timer on 10/1 chance Long Journey Home, for Mitchelstown trainer Daniel William O'Sullivan in the 1ml 3f handicap, making all the running to win comfortably from favourite Shalaman.
O'Sullivan explained he just needs to bowl along and the tactics worked well although a mile is probably too sharp for him, he needs time between his races but will have hurdling options as well."
