One Wall Handball Irish National played last weekend at Breaffy House Complex, Castlebar again proved a huge success, just over four hundred players consisting of Ladies, Men, Girls, Boys competed over the different grades commencing on Saturday and finishing on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon. The standard was very high no doubt all the players who competed and in particular those who succeeded in making it to the concluding stages benefited from the experience of an intense level over the three days.

While many Cork players played well in their respective grades our only One Wall title of the weekend came in Men's 'C' with Mallow player Gearoid O'Connell defeated Tipperary's David O'Brien in that final. In Girls U-13 Sarah Walsh, Mallow also reached the final losing out narrowly to Emma Kinane, Galway.

In Girls 13 & Under grade there was also some good performances from Carmel Kelliher, Boherbue. In Boys 19 & Under there was some good displays from both Mallow players David Walsh and Niall Delany both failing to make it to the concluding stages by just a few aces with the title here goind to Wexford player Daniel Kavanagh.

In Boys 17 & Under Conor Walsh, Mallow reached the semi-final losing to Jason O'Toole, Galway. In this grade, other Cork players to impress in Boys U17 grade were Mallow players Stephen O'Rourke, Anthony O'Connell, Brooklyn Hickey and Liscarroll's Luke Barrett. In Boys 15 & Under Boherbue's Darragh Ducey, Cathal Ducey and Mallow player Eric Delany all performed well.

In Girls 15 & Under Celine Kelliher, Boherbue put in some good performances, while in the Girls 15 & Under Doubles Plate, Conna's Cliona Dunning playing with Olivia King took the spoils. Also in Boys 15 & Under Sam Dunning, Conna, reached the semi-final of the Plate Competition. Cian Dunning, Conna and Wesley Delany, Mallow also performed well in Boys U11 Doubles.

In Ladies Competition Conna Ladies Nuala Dunning and Kate O'Riordan also put in some good performances. In One Wall Handball going forward the next important outing will be Munster One Wall Championship which is scheduled for Saturday, May 19 at Spa Handball Club, Killarney the Cork players to compete there were decided following the County one Wall Finals which were held in Conna on Sunday April 29.

With World Championship scheduled for Minnesota from August 12 to 19, there has to be some tweaking of county, provincial and national 60x30 championship, all counties and provinces are currently re-arranging their schedule of games to allow players who are travelling to Minnesota time to prepare and also for travel. Cork Handball Board discussed this at their Monthly Board meeting on Wednesday last, and it was decided to seek entries for both adult and juvenile championship over the coming few weeks. The 60x30 County Juvenile championship are scheduled for first two weeks of July at Cullen venue. Adult championship in most grades will have to be also played during July, Munster Council have scheduled both adult and juvenile fixture from around September 1 onwards which allows very little time post World Championship therefore significant progress has to be made in the period last June and July.
