Kanturk runner selected on Irish team for European Cross-country Championships


Kenturk runner Michelle Finn has been selected the Irish Team for the upcoming European Cross-country Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria.

Fionnuala Britton will lead a 33-strong Irish team into the European Cross-country Championships in Bulgaria, which take place this Sunday. Britton will be joined on the women's team by the five top finishers at the -nter-county championships in cluding Finn (Leevale AC), Laura Crowe (An Riocht), Sara Treacy (Dunboyne AC), Siobhan O'Doherty (Borriskane AC) and Ann Marie McGlynn (Letterkenny AC).

Finn, from Gurteenard, outside Kanturk, is the daughter of Mary and Toddy Finn and sister of Denis, Carol and Gayle. She is a member of the Leevale Club in Cork, came second in the GloHealth Cross-country Championships in Dundalk on last month.

Finn had a superb run in the Senior women's race to finish second to Britton and ahead of her training partner, Laura Crowe, who finished third. That result was enough to qualify Finn to take her place on the Irish team for the European Cross-country Championships.

Finn previously represented Ireland at the World University Games in Russia in 2013. She also won the Women's Senior Cross-country County Championship on in early November where she was joined by her sister Carol when Leevale AC took the gold medal for the Women's Senior team.

Michelle is the current national silver medallist in the Women's Senior 3,000 metre steeplechase.
