Cork handballers involved in five grades at All-Ireland One-Wall Championship

In handball this weekend the main focus will be on All Ireland One Wall Championship on Saturday which is being hosted by Mount Talbot Handball Club, Roscommon, and The Mattie McDonagh Centre, Ballygar. Play commences on Saturday at 10am and there are eleven different grades down for decision with Cork players involved in five.

In Ladies Open the reigning champion Catriona Casey, Ballydesmond, is already through to Saturday's final in which she awaits the winner of Pauline Gallagher, Mayo, v Niamh Dunne, Laois. While one can take nothing for granted Casey will start favourite to retain the title. In Ladies C Anna Dunne, Kilworth, will play Down's Michelle McCoy in a semi-final if she can surmount that hurdle she will await the winner of Sligo v Kilkenny game in the final.

In Men's C semi-final Gearoid O'Connell, Mallow, also face Down opposition Collie Turley if successful he will take on the winner of Galway v Louth in the Final. In Boys U-15 Darragh Ducey,Boherbue plays Tyrone Cahir Munroe in a semi-final if successful he will play the winner of Galway v Kilkenny in the final.

In Boys U-17 Niall Delany, Mallow, will carry Cork hopes he plays Dara Curran, Tyrone, in a semi-final, if he is successful then he will face the winner of Galway v Kilkenny in the Final.

The standard in all grades will be high nothing will be won easily, we would hope that all Cork players will perform well and hopefully come back with some All Ireland titles.

The Munster 60x30 championship programme commenced last Monday evening with Cork players involved in four fixtures winning two and losing two.

At Cullen Dale Cusack,Mallow defeated Clive Counihan,Kerry in Junior Singles 21-3, 21-5. Also at Cullen in Junior B Singles Cian Counihan, Kerry, defeated John Horgan, Kilworth, 21-20, 21-11. At Bohermore also in Junior Singles Jamie O'Donnell, Fermoy defeated Keith Heelan, Limerick, 21-12, 21-14.

At Hospital in Masters B Singles Michael O'Brien, Limerick, defeated Michael Linehan, Ballydesmond, 21-7, 21-8.

Munster championship continues this Thursday at Dungarvan at 7.30 Shane Flynn, Boherbue, travels to play Waterford Anthony Fitzgerald wont be an easy task for Shane Flynn never easy to come away from Dungarvan with a win. The next set of Munster fixtures were due to be issued on Wednesday so they should be to hand as these notes appear.

In the County Junior Doubles semi-final played in Cullen Mallow pair Ryan Harkin/Tadgh Carroll defeated Boherbue/Fermoy pair Tim Breen/Jamie O'Donnell 13-21, 21-20, 21-1. Ryan Harkin/Tadgh Carroll now play Mallow/Ballydesmond pair Dale Cusack/Donnacha O'Dea in the fnal in Cullen this Friday at 7pm.

On Saturday in Cullen at 7pm Junior B Doubles Final is down for decision. If a play-off is required to decide Cork no.2 pairing in Junior Doubles for Munster championship that play off goes ahead in Cullen on Sunday at 7pm, while in Junior B Doubles if a play-off is required that will be played in Cullen on Monday evening.

Last weekend was another big occasion for Cork players at US Nationals in Los Caballeros, California with Killian Carroll, Mallow, and Catriona Casey, Ballydesmond, retaining Mens and Ladies US Open Singles titles, putting in some fantastic performances which clearly underlines their World status.
