Stronger Macroom deliver telling show to better Boherbue in Glenville Tournament

Glenville Under 21 Football Tournament Macroom 2-12 Boherbue 1-5

MACROOM'S superior firepower helped chart a deserved win over a brave Boherbue effort in the Glenville Under 21 Football Tournament played in Boherbue.

At the end of the hour, victory belonged to the more accomplished Mid Cork side, boosted by a 0-10 contribution from talisman Pa Lucey and goals in either half. Backed by the breeze, Macroom dictated much of the opening spell, their cause boosted by a gem of a goal from a spectacular volley by Michael Browne.

Boherbue offered flashes of potential, encouraged by the efforts of Liam Daly, Niall Murphy, Andrew O'Connor and the energy of Timothy Murphy. And on the call of the interval, Boherbue received a boost from a fine goal netted by Denis O'Sullivan to trail 1-7 to 1-2 at the break.

That score should had roused Boherbue yet a physically stronger Macroom returned more focused. With David Horgan controlling the centre, well supported by Brian McMahon, Emmet Quinlan and Lucey, Macroom added to their tally, helped by a Robert Dwyer goal.

Boherbue refused to lie down on summoning up a siege but found Macroom 'keeper Declan Kiely ever vigilant between the opposing uprights.

Soaking up the pressure, Macroom held firm for a worthy win.
