CONGRATS to St. Mary's senior camogie team who defeated Glanmire in the county final on Friday, April 12. The St. Mary's girls worked very hard throughout the game against a very strong and physical Glanmire side.

The scoring of the game was opened up with a point from St. Mary's Annemarie Ryan. Another point soon followed after tireless work from Rachel Hurley. St. Mary's seemed to being going strong now with points from Ella Curtin and Becky Hennigan, with great passages of play from the backline through to the forwards.

However, Glanmire were charging at the St. Mary's backline with strong force and after many great saves from goalkeeper, Yvonne Burgoyne, Glanmire finally found the back of the net. Two points followed the goal and Glanmire led by a point. Great defending by Aisling Kelleher saw a long ball down to the forward line where Becky Hennigan was able to finish off a well worked goal. The St. Mary's back line was outstanding throughout and another point for the St. Mary's girls saw them lead by three points at the break, with the scoreboard reading 1-5 to 1-2.

Glanmire came out in the second half even stronger. They goaled within the first five minutes with the St. Mary's girls off the mark since the break. St. Mary's then responded with a long range point from Becky Hennigan. Glanmire then got three unanswered points from play which saw them take the lead for only the second time in the game, by just one point.

However, our girls responded very well with three more points, two from placed balls, taken excellently by Annemarie Ryan. With just less than five minutes to go, Sarah Byrne found the back of the net to finish off a great sporting game of Camogie. The final score finished up 2-9 to 2-5 in favour of the Macroom girls. Well done to all the girls involved, trainers and mentors.
