THE old cliche of goals winning games rang true for Cuchulainns on victory over Donoughmore in a thrilling Abbey Print Rebel Óg North Cork Minor 'B' HC final in Newtownshandrum.

Rebel Óg North Cork MBHC Final

Cuchulainns 4-9 Donouhmore 2-13

From a cracking encounter, the predatory finishing of full forward Liam O'Keeffe underpinned Cuchulainns triumph, the target man bagging a hat trick of goals that swayed a close contest.

Donoughmore brought plenty of enthusiasm to an intriguing clash and enjoyed a productive start to forge ahead.

The Duhallow side settled after Cian Clernon netted a well taken goal. Still Donoughmore remained eager and competitive, Adam Looney hitting a goal only for O'Keeffe to answer with the first of his strikes to gather a slender 2-6 to 1-8 advantage at the break for the Kanturk and Lismire combination.

Donoughmore assumed control upon the restart with the Looneys, Jamie Twomey and Brian Aherne to the fore and a spell of concerted pressure switched the scoreboard in their favour thanks to a Darren Lucey goal.

Cuchulainns rallied from the promptings of Colm Noonan, Darren Browne, Darren O'Sullivan and O'Keeffe emerged highly influencial in attack to blast home a pair of goals. Donoughmore had no intention of letting go without a fight and Cuchulainns were relieved to see a semi penalty stopped by 'keeper Barry Kenneally.
