Newmarket ease past Kilbrin to make Junior B hurling league final
Duhallow Junior B Hurling League semi-final: Newmarket 3-16 Kilbrin 2-5
Newmarket advanced to set up a meeting against Meelin after a fully deserved semi-final win over Kilbrin in the Duhallow Junior B Hurling League at Meelin.
The outcome was a deserved return for Newmarket's energy and effort, areas where they held the upperhand on a Kilbrin side that lacked the intensity of their opponents.
Newmarket got off to a perfect start with impressive centre forward, Michael Cottrell registering an early goal. Maintaining a high tempo through the commanding play of Donncha Fitzpatrick, Jack Guiney, Cottrell and Ryan O'Keeffe, Newmarket continued to dominate.
Points from Paul Verling Cottrell and Guiney allowed Newmarket hold the upperhand through enterprising play. Kilbrin refused to wilt and solid play from Paul Ahern, Thomas Mullane and Donal O'Mahony brought about an improvement that yielded a goal from Neil Cronin to cut the leeway 1-10 to 1-3 at the break.
However Newmarket maintained a high tempo upon the resumption with Ryan O'Keeffe raising a green flag. For a spell, Kilbrin continued to compete and a goal from Noel O'Callaghan offered encouragement and some hope entering the last quarter.
Again Newmarket regrouped and a second O'Keeffe goal put the icing on the cake.
