There was heartache for Clyda Rovers as they lost out to Kiltha Óg (Dungourney/Castlemartyr) in the Rebel Óg North Under 17 Div 1 HL final at Kilworth.
The winners were the better balanced and they led all through. Cillian O'Callaghan opened with an early point. Clyda were denied a goal when Mark Kelleher's effort was well saved by Oran Sweetnam.
Colin Murphy goaled and Brian Flynn followed with a brace of points. Charlie O'Neill made it 1-5 to 0-0. Nathan O'Connell opened Clyda's account with a free. Both sides exchanged points with Kiltha Óg ahead at half-time 1-9 to 0-4.
There was no way back for Clyda on the restart. The East Cork side continued to dominate. Clyda had the first two points by Sean O'Sullivan (frees) Clyda keeper Bobby Deane was excellent all through.
Seán Geaney pointed a '65 for the winners and they followed with a goal by Charlie O'Neill as they moved 2-10 to 0-6 clear. The Avondhu side battled to the end. They had a goal by Niall Burke.
Seán Geaney followed with a point for the Imokilly side who now led by double scorers 2-12 to 1-6. Clyda lacked scoring power with Seán O'Sullivan their top scorer with 0-6 from frees. Seán Geaney added two pointed frees with O'Sullivan with two late points completing the Rovers tally.
In the end Kiltha Óg emerged deserving winners by a 12 point margin. After the game Patsy O'Mahony, Treasurer Rebel Óg North presented the Cup to the winning captain Cathal Murphy.
