Duhallow U-21 HC

Croke Rovers 7-11

Dromtariffe 2-16

HOLDERS Croke Rovers fired out an emphatic warning to their rivals on overcoming Dromtariffe in the opening round to the Duhallow U21HC played in Castlemagner on Monday.

On doing so, the Castlemagner and Kilbrin combination struck early and often that effectively sealed the outcome. At their best, Rovers more canny hurling and better decision making was key to the destination of the honours.

Perhaps, the scoreline proved somewhat flattering for Dromtariffe contributed to an entertaining confrontation and deserved to be much closer than the 10 points victory margin suggests. Rovers had hit the ground running and three productive attacks yielded scores including a pair of goals from target man Eoin Sheahan in a rewarding flourish.

And when substitute Tim Murphy touched home another goal, the writing appeared on the wall for the challengers. Dromtariffe came to grips with the situation on the encouraging efforts of Jack Murphy, Kevin Cremin and Daniel O'Keeffe.

Points to Seán Howard and Danny Mullane preceeded a crisply taken goal by Paudie O'Callaghan. However Dromtariffe proceeded to incur a series of blows on the dismissal of Mullane and an opportunist goal from Matt O'Sullivan left Rovers ahead 4-4 to 1-8 ahead at the break.

Still Dromtariffe held their own on the restart, Howard and Darragh Crowley on target with neatly struck points. But when required, Rovers came up with the answers, binded together by the effective play of Matt O'Sullivan, Daniel Sheahan, Conor Murphy and Garret Linehan.

The scores flowed, Linehan, Murphy and Eoin Sheahan netted for the latter complete a hat trick of goals to put clear daylight between the pair and the ultimate spoils to the Rovers.
