The prospect of a cracking contest is on the cards when Knocknagree and Rockchapel meet in the Donagh Hickey Motors Duhallow Cup Football Final in Dromtarriffe on Tuesday evening.
hat a few seasons it's been for both sides, a deferring of the 2020 county championships yielded rich picks when Rockchapel collected the County IFC title from a fancied Mitchelstown with Knocknagree adding to their collection by overcoming Kanturk in the County Premier IFC decider.
And though hopes of further success evaded both sides in new surroundings to their respective 2021 campaigns, Rockchapel and Knocknagree can take plenty of encouragement from their form to date this season.
From the County FL Division 2A, Rockchapel are sitting nicely in second place behind Nemo Rangers with big games coming up against Dohenys and Glanworth will determine their fate. And a run of good form is evident from the Duhallow Cup, Rockchapel weathered a promising start from Cullen in the semi final
Indeed there was plenty of resolve in Rockchapel's game, more as the game progressed, they brought all their big game experience to bear on excellent attacking movement. with Eamon O'Callaghan, Moss O'Keeffe, Seamus Hickey and William Murphy controlling key departments to allow Mikey McAulliffe and Jack Curtin grab telling scores.
Meanwhile, Knocknagree operate in the County FL Division 2B, currently just behind pacesetters Kanturk with upcoming tussles against Dromtarriffe and Aghada set to determine their fate. To reach this decider, a slicker Knocknagree showed class to get the better of holders Kiskeam in the semi final.
In doing so, Knocknagree performed with an intensity and purpose that ultimately proved too much for Kiskeam. For Knocknagree, Michael Mahoney, Danny Cooper, David O'Connor, John F Daly and Denis O'Connor impressed to deliver a series of telling points.
A blip for Knocknagree surfaced for Knocknagree on a narrow league loss to Mitchelstown last time out whereas Rockchapel enjoyed a deserved win over Ballydesmond.
With two well prepared sides on duty, one can expect a competitive battle, little between the sides, a win for either will surely act as a booster ahead of facing into assignments towards reaching league playoffs and the championship coming up next month.
The Twohig’s Supervalu JAHL continues this Friday, currently, Millstreet, Dromtarriffe, Banteer and Newmarket look well positioned to reach the semi finals. Kilbrin need a win at Castlemagner to revive their interests while unbeaten Millstreet take a trip to Newmarket.
