There was no disputing that a Duhallow side featuring a number of newcomers blended in superbly with long time servants such as John McLoughlin, Seamus Hickey and Donncha O’Connor.

Holding a 1-11 to 0-6 advantage at half-time, Duhallow were able to negotiate the best from a College side featuring a number of Duhallow based players.

Duhallow enjoyed a decent start on early points to Gerry O’Sullivan and Donncha O’Connor. MTU held their own, Shane Walsh delivered a brave and a third from Boherbue’s David O’Connor kept the issue wide open at 0-4 to 0-3.

Growing in confidence, Duhallow’s game gathered momentum highlighted on a goal, a wayward MTU pass saw Luke Murphy place Hickey to find the net.

Though the students answered with three points, Donncha O’Connor emerged the standout figure with a range of points for Duhallow hold a commanding position at the interval.

Sloppy play surfaced on the restart, Duhallow caught napping when Castlemagner’s Danny Lenihan netted for MTU.

However, the setback failed to impact on Duhallow’s game with Luke Murphy, Mickey McAulliffe and O’Sullivan point.

And the outcome was sealed and delivered when McAuliffe pounced to net to rubber stamp a place in the Sectional Final against Carbery at Páirc Uí Rinn on Sunday night with a 7.45pm throw in.
